Golf Gets a Makeover with the Launch of TGL

Golf enthusiasts, get ready for something fresh and exciting in the world of golf! The much-anticipated Tomorrow’s Golf League, or TGL, is here, and it’s about to take the way we enjoy the sport to a whole new level. Founded in August 2022 by legends in the game, including Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, along with former NBC golf executive Mike McCarley, TGL promises to be an interactive and tech-infused spectacle that fans won’t want to miss.

What is TGL All About?

The TGL is a collaborative effort with the PGA Tour, which means fans can expect top-notch golfing action with a unique twist. Unlike traditional golf tournaments, TGL matches take place in a custom-built arena designed specifically for this league. The venue, known as the SoFi Center, is situated in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and it’s where all the magic will unfold.

With six teams showcasing four of the best PGA Tour golfers each, TGL provides an electrifying two-hour match format. The excitement heats up as teams battle it out using a 3-on-3 format that features two exciting sessions. The first is the triples session, which includes nine holes played in an alternate-shot format. Following that is the singles session, where players go head-to-head in a one-on-one match play over six holes.

Scoring, Overtime, and Shot Clock!

In the TGL format, every hole scored is worth one point, and if teams find themselves tied at the end of regulation, they’ll have to duke it out in a nail-biting overtime. Think of it as a penalty shootout in soccer—teams must aim for the pin to secure victory!

Shot clocks are in effect for each player’s turn, giving them just 40 seconds to make their move. This ensures the pace of play stays lively and engaging, while any slow play will result in a one-stroke penalty. Teams also have the option to use four timeouts during the match, allowing for strategic pauses, but there are restrictions on when those timeouts can be called.

Engagement Like Never Before!

TGL is all about bringing fans closer to the action than ever before, and they’ve got that covered! Each player will be wearing a microphone, ensuring that you hear every tidbit and banter during the matches. There will also be referees present to keep everything running smoothly and by the rules, making for a transparent and captivating experience for everyone involved.

The Teams Competing in TGL

So, who are the stars you’ll be cheering for? Here’s the line-up of teams:

  • Atlanta Drive GC: Patrick Cantlay, Lucas Glover, Billy Horschel, Justin Thomas
  • Boston Common Golf: Keegan Bradley, Hideki Matsuyama, Rory McIlroy, Adam Scott
  • Jupiter Links Golf Club: Max Homa, Tom Kim, Kevin Kisner, Tiger Woods

  • New York Golf Club: Matt Fitzpatrick, Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele, Cameron Young
  • The Bay Golf Club: Ludvig Åberg, Wyndham Clark, Shane Lowry, Min Woo Lee

Playoff Structure and Prizes

The regular-season matches will follow a points-based system like we see in the NHL, where teams can earn up to two points per match. When it comes to the playoffs, expect a thrill with a single-elimination semifinal round followed by a best-of-three championship series. The total prize purse for this inaugural season is a whopping $20 million, with the winning team taking home an impressive $9 million!

Don’t Miss Out!

For those excited to catch the action live, ticket prices were recently around $162 on platforms like StubHub. You wouldn’t want to miss this incredible new era of golf.
